The International Association of Impact Assessment (IAIA), in its own words, is a ‘leading global network for best practice in the use of impact assessment for informed decision making regarding policies, programs, plans and projects’. IAIA’s Annual Conference took place this year in Florence, Italy, between 20 and 23 April.
The conference theme was ‘Impact Assessment in the Digital Era’ and the main areas of discussion were how new technologies are influencing all aspects of society, and their pivotal role in impact assessment and sustainability.
The conference brought together more than 1,000 delegates from around the world, with a wide focus and included multilateral financial institutions, private sector companies, regulators and practitioners.
Recognizing the significance of this platform, ERM is proud to have acted as a main Sponsor for the conference. Serving on the conference Programme Committee, chairing sessions and presenting 15 papers helped ERM to convey our experiences in Impact Assessment. In this context, our speakers covered many key issues at the conference from the innovative use of visualization tools, new ways to evaluate climate change adaptation needs, smart mapping and new technologies for undertaking field surveys.
We were delighted to have participated in this conference and having had time now to reflect on the event we are able to share the themes which emerged from the conference.
