Session 8: Managing Hazards
Wednesday, August 15, 2018, 13:00 - 14:30

This session will explore the concept of managing hazards, starting with basic definitions, specific concepts and examples of how hazards are currently being managed in the drilling industry. The panel will include senior leaders who will share their perspectives and engage in a stimulating dialogue with the workshop participants.  ERM Senior Partner Trey Shaffer will be the session chairperson and Charles Schalkwyk, ERM's Partner for Risk and Human Factors in the Americas, will be one of the speakers.

ERM Contributors

Trey Shaffer is a Senior Partner at ERM focused on the Oil & Gas Sector, and has previously served as the Chair to the Gulf Coast Section of SPE and as the HSSE-SR Technical Director on the SPE International Board of Directors. He has over 30 years, delivering a broad range of environmental consulting and construction services to Oil & Gas and Chemical sector clients throughout the world. Trey is currently responsible for a portfolio of Fortune 500 client relationships with oil and gas and chemical sector clients.

Charles Schalkwyk is a Partner for Risk and Human Factors, Americas at ERM. He is a Safety & Risk Management advisor with over 17 years experience in the management of catastrophic and major hazards and risk throughout numerous safety critical industries through Oil & Gas and Mining specifically. Charles has worked with various clients in various industries throughout Africa, Middle East, Asia Pacific and Americas, as an advisor in assisting clients in the management of their risk from the front line to the executive level. 

ERM Participants

Caleb Wall is a Partner at ERM. He specializes in driving improved environmental, social and health & safety performance through impact assessment, risk management and assurance systems. Caleb holds a PhD in Anthropology and blends this academic training with his 15+ years of experience in social & environmental impact assessment and health, safety and environmental management. By focusing on safety culture, and the intersection between people, plant and processes, he helps companies understand their operations – and their risks – as they exist on the ground, in the hands of operators and front-line leaders. Caleb has worked extensively in the Oil & Gas and mining sectors in the past and today spends most of his time supporting clients in the O&G and the technology sectors.

Patrick Moore is a Senior Partner at ERM and serves as a Corporate Account Strategist. With over 35 years of experience he is responsible for sustainability planning for all ERM business units in the Americas. Patrick assists clients in defining and developing their sustainability efforts enabling them to achieve business goals, manage risk and enhance their company’s reputation.  He coordinates innovation and planning throughout ERM through the Southern Division Center of Innovation for Sustainability Planning.
