US Congress asks ERM to organize climate change/smart grid event for its Democratic Issues Forum
10 February 2010
During the UNFCCC’s COP15 summit on climate change last year ERM brought together the Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi as well as 30 other members of the US Congressional Delegation together with the ERM policy client, the Demand Response and Smart Grid Coalition (DRSG).
As a direct result of this meeting, Kara Saul Rinaldi, ERM’s Policy Expert on Energy and Climate Change in the US, was contacted by the House Democratic Caucus Chairman Larson to bring the same presentation before the democrats retreat in January this year.
The original event at COP15 was facilitated by Kara during which DRSG, whose members include Whirlpool, Google, Honeywell, and others, presented on how US smart grid and demand response policies can create jobs while addressing climate change.
Feedback from Ms. Pelosi on the event included how informative the presentations were and the opportunity the event provided to discuss investments and innovations that have been made in smart grid and demand management technologies.
Kara said: “The COP15 event was an important opportunity for the US clean technology community to tell leaders of the US Congress how their businesses may grow under carbon-restricting policies.”
At the event in January CEOs from prominent DRSG companies gave their presentations before more than 150 members of the House of Representatives including the full House leadership. Following this event, these speakers were again invited to provide a webinar to the staff of all the members of the House of Representatives.
“Advancing clean, efficient energy technologies is crucial to meeting growing US energy demand while working to meet US climate change targets,” said Kara. “I was thrilled to be able to organize events that put my clients in front of key US decision-makers. I hope to continue to use my relationships with the US congressional leadership to advance the goals of my clean-energy clients.”
