Influential mining leader

Louise Pearce, Global Managing Partner for ERM's mining sector
Toronto, Ontario, Canada

I feel honored and humbled to be recognized as one of the 100 Global Inspirational Women in Mining 2016. The list is produced each year by Women in Mining UK, a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting the employment, retention and progress of women in the mining industry.

As a group, the 100 women who feature in this list represent a wide variety of contributions made to both mining and broader civil society. They serve as role models for the next generation of great women who are working in the sector. For me, this responsibility means staying true to my core values, leading by example by focusing on clients and people, and having a bit of fun along the way.

The mining industry is the source of just about everything we make on the planet, and the industry’s sustainability footprint is a concern to many stakeholders. I think that having more women and greater diversity in general, within mining companies and service providers, are absolutely necessary to address those sustainability-related concerns. They will allow us to improve the industry’s reputation and to allow for more effective contributions to transforming economies and the livelihoods of so many.

Over the course of my 12-year career at ERM, I have held practice and business unit managing partner roles. Now, based in Toronto as the Global Managing Partner for ERM’s mining sector, I am often found in other ERM offices, working with our talented local mining teams to help support our clients.
