Utilizing local expertise in emerging markets
Ricardo Costa Pereira
As ERM expands operations in emerging markets, we seek to utilize the skills and experience of local employees alongside our international staff. Our ability to attract, develop, reward and retain talented and diverse employees across the world is an important aspect of our ongoing success.
I have experienced this firsthand ever since I joined the company in the beginning of 2014 as a Senior Consultant. I am originally from Mozambique and joined the Maputo office soon after it opened. While at ERM, I have led a number of multidisciplinary projects requiring management of diversified teams in a variety of different countries.
Mozambique is an exciting location to be working in right now. As the market grows, we are in a unique position to support not only our clients in their business ventures, but also the governmental authorities in their steep learning curve with regards to international best practices.
When I was notified in March 2015 by my business unit Managing Partner that I had been selected to participate in our global Aspire Program, I was excited at the opportunity to expand my leadership skills while gaining a greater understanding of ERM's business and goals. Through the 12-month program, I was exposed to a number of different services that ERM offers that were previously unknown to me. The Aspire Program also allowed for interactions with ERM's regional leadership and has expanded my network across the various practices. This will most certainly result in increased cross-collaboration, which will in turn benefit the clients I work with.
