SPE E&P Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental Conference - Americas

16 March 2015

ERM at the Conference

Managing risk, safety, and environmental damage is an ever-present challenge in the energy sector. ERM understands the implications of these challenges across the oil and gas value chain, and shared our insights at the 2015 “E&P Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental Conference – Americas”, hosted by the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), March 16-18, 2015, in Denver, Colorado.

Technical Sessions
ERM recognizes the industry’s global sustainability challenges -- and has the experts and experience to help companies resolve them. Eight of our industry specialists and strategic advisors spoke on a range of topics, including:

Strategies for Managing Greenhouse Gas Issues in an Ever-growing Oil and Gas Industry

  • Reasonable Assurance of Accuracy of GHG Data under Mandatory Reporting for the Upstream and Midstream Oil and Gas Industry: Fuel Samples
  • A Holistic Approach to Environment and Safety in ESIAs
  • Practical Barrier Strength Assessment for Bowtie Diagrams
  • Factoring in Ecosystem Services and Values in Decision Making, Risk Management, Loss and Environmental Damage: Over the Lifecycle of Energy Development
  • The Integral Role of Waste Management into Successful Capital Project Design and Implementation
  • Reducing Project Risks Through Enhanced Evaluation of Societal Risks
  • Marine Mammals and Ocean Sound: Sources, Impacts, Uncertainties, Controls, and Future Decision Making

Training Course
ERM Partner Linda Brewer teamed with SPE sustainability colleagues to lead a two-day training course on March 14-15, “The Sustainability Imperative: Making the Case and Driving Change.” Geared toward senior management, field management, and corporate and field sustainability practitioners, this course provided insight into improving risk and reputation management and enhancing the prospects for success of oil and gas projects by improving the industry’s social and environmental performance. The objective of this course was to promote conversations between the expert practitioners and operations decision-makers to deepen the knowledge of practitioners and raise awareness among non-practitioners.
