26 May 2010
The 3rd Macao International Environmental Co-operation Forum (MIECF) and Exhibition saw ERM discussing the topic of Green Economic Business, Green Forum, Green Showcase, Green Matching, Green Gala and more.
MIECF is an important annual forum-led event, accompanied by a green exhibition platform. Led by the Macao SAR Government, it provides a gateway for green resources, technology exchange and co-operation between China and international market, especially EU. This year it attracted over 8,000 participants from more than 47 countries.
Mr Fong Boon Loo, a Partner in ERM’s China office, attended the event as a guest host for Green Business Co-operation Day and as one of the keynote speakers at the Green Economic Business Summit. Mr Loo is also a representative of European Chamber Environmental Working Group in China which was set up in 2006 as a platform for European companies involved in the environmental sector in China. This platform promotes communication between Chinese and European regulators giving European companies the chance to exchange experiences and best practice. The Working Group currently comprises European manufacturers, environmental technology service providers and consultancy firms dealing with due diligence, environmental compliance and legal services.
Mr Loo’s presentation discussed the Environmental Working Group’s activities in China and how it promotes cooperation between different industrial sectors, the public and local governments on environmental issues. The Working Group is striving to establish an effective dialogue on environmental standards in China with better interpretation of local laws and regulations. It also aims to enhance the cooperation with local authorities in monitoring environmental violations specifically in the interpretation and enforcement of regulations in environmental protection.
