ERM chairs UN event focused on accelerating implementation of the Millennium Development Goals
20 September 2010
Robin Bidwell, Chairman of the ERM Foundation, has chaired a high level meeting of the world’s leading business networks as part of the United Nations Annual Assembly.
World leaders gathered to discuss issues of concern to their countries, regions and the world, in addition to focusing their energy and expertise on a special summit on achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
The MDGs were agreed in 2000 as a set of internationally agreed targets to eradicate poverty and other major social and health issues by 2015. Ten years on, world leaders are gathering again to review progress. With only five years to go until the 2015 deadline the world is not yet on track to meet them.
Robin chaired Accelerating Progress: Towards the Millennium Development Goals through inclusive business – a high-level workshop co-sponsored by UNDP, IBLF, WBCSD and others. The event involved leaders from business as well as government and non-government organizations. Robin also attended the UN Private Sector Forum where he is chaired the Green Technology session and the UN High Level event on Biodiversity, Climate Change and the MDGs.
ERM has been an active member of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development for many years and for the past three Robin has also co-chaired its Development group.
