ERM has worked with China’s Ministry of Environmental Protection (MEP) to help produce The Technical Guideline for Environmental Impact Assessment – Construction Projects in the Pesticides Industry (HJ582-2010). Issued by China’s MEP in September, it will be put into force on 1 January 2011.
The Technical Guideline will be applicable for the environmental impact assessment of all new construction, renovation and expansion projects in the pesticides industry.
Shaun Xie, Managing Partner for ERM's operations in China said: "This has been a new and exciting opportunity for ERM in China. We played a key role in the Guideline's drafting team and were involved throughout the development process.
“With support from the ERM’s global resources, we introduced the internationally best available pollution control technologies and environmental management experience in the pesticide industry, as well as soil and groundwater contamination control experience. Impact assessment on soil and groundwater was emphasized, and the Technical Guideline includes a requirement for impact assessment after site decommissioning."
