Our value chain
At regular intervals, ERM evaluates the key elements of its business, which include inputs to our business operations (our supply chain), the advice and services we deliver to clients and the benefits we bring to the communities where we work and operate. Taken together, these activities form our value chain.

We have developed this interactive tool to enable an exploration of the impacts we are having on the global sustainability agenda through our advisory services, our projects and programs, our contributions to thought leadership and to society, our operations and our business performance. Each icon links to a section of the report, which expands on why this issue is important, and the ways in which we are addressing the associated challenges and opportunities.
The graphic sets out key elements about us and our supply chain, including:
- Our values, principles and strategy: These define who we are and how we work.
- Goods and services: We procure items for our network of offices around the world ranging from office supplies to IT equipment. We also require goods and services to support our delivery of projects to clients, including travel management, technical equipment and specialized support from subcontractors.
- Forms of capital: As a professional services firm, human capital is our greatest asset. Financial capital enables us to grow our business, while physical capital includes our 160 offices and site-based facilities.
We believe we can have a positive impact on all aspects of our supply chain, and by understanding and addressing our supply and value chains, we can continue to track and improve our sustainability performance – and the outcomes that we deliver.
ERM’s contributions to creating a more sustainable world are manifested through the environmental and social impacts of the services we provide to our clients. These servcies to our clients result in substantially greater impacts than through our direct operational footprint alone. For example, through our project work, we help clients achieve reductions in greenhouse gas emissions that far outweigh any direct savings we can make through optimizing ERM's office operations and minimizing ERM's business travel.
This year's report contains examples of the impacts we deliver through our client work. We also have adapted our measurement methodologies to understand the impact of projects funded through the ERM Foundation.
